🌟 90 Years of Hoofbeats: Celebrating Gower Riding Club’s Diamond Anniversary

This year, Gower Riding Club hits a milestone that few organizations reach: we are officially 90 years old! Since our founding in 1936, the club has been a cornerstone of the Gower Peninsula’s equestrian community. But we aren’t just any local group—we are incredibly proud to hold the title of Britain’s oldest riding club.

A Legacy in the Saddle

What started as a small gathering of local enthusiasts has grown into a thriving hub for riders across South Wales. For nine decades, we’ve shared the bridleways, the beaches, and the show rings. From the early days of the great Derby jumps to today’s professional clinics and British Riding Club championships, GRC has seen generations of families pass through its ranks.

More Than Just a Club

While the ribbons and trophies are wonderful, the true heart of Gower Riding Club has always been the community. We’ve survived 90 years because of:

  • The Volunteers: The dedicated individuals who build courses in the rain and keep the gates swinging.
  • The Landscape: Our unique privilege of riding in the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • The Spirit: A shared passion that connects a lead-rein pony rider to a seasoned dressage competitor.

Celebrating Throughout 2026

We aren't just looking back; we’re looking forward! 2026 will be a year of celebration, featuring special commemorative events, "throwback" stories from our archives, and opportunities for members old and new to share their favorite GRC memories.

Whether you’ve been with us for forty years or are considering joining in our 90th, you are part of a living history. Here’s to the next 90 years of galloping across the Gower!
